Dean E. Scroggie Post No. 451
The Walloon Lake Legion Hall was a valuable gathering place. Various community activities took place there, like the wedding reception for Tom R. Conkright and Donna Ward, as indicated from the reception card below which was included in their 1959 wedding invitation. If anyone has any photos of the Legion Hall, or wishes to share any memories or stories regarding the Walloon Lake Legion Hall, please contact the webmaster.
1948
After a fire of undermined origin totally destroyed the Walloon Lake Community Hall, the members of the American Legion voted unanimously to re-erect a community building as soon as possible. Plans for a $20 or $30 thousand building were discussed; a one story structure with a basement. A Dean Scroggie Post, American Legion committee consisting of Frank Starr and Elver Carroll worked on building plans. A fund-raising campaign was launched with pledged support from the Ladies Guild and the Walloon Lake Auxiliary. Several Petoskey merchants agreed to sell building materials at cost to the community.
